1. Introduction
ContactVault ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our data handling practices when you use our iOS application.
Our Core Privacy Principle: Your contacts are your private data. We designed ContactVault from the ground up to process everything locally on your device, ensuring your data never leaves your control.
2. Information We Collect
ContactVault is designed with privacy as a fundamental principle. Here's what we do and don't collect:
What We DO NOT Collect:
- Contact Data: We never transmit your contacts to any external server. All contact processing happens locally on your device.
- Usage Analytics: We do not collect any analytics, tracking data, or usage statistics.
- Personal Information: We do not require accounts, logins, or any personal information to use the app.
- Location Data: We do not collect or use your location.
- Advertising Identifiers: We do not use IDFA or any advertising identifiers.
What We Access Locally:
- Contact Information: Accessed locally on your device solely for creating backups. This data never leaves your device.
- Backup Files: Stored locally in your device's file system. You have full control over these files.
3. How We Use Your Information
Your contact information is used exclusively for:
- Creating backup files in your chosen format (VCF or CSV)
- Encrypting backups when you enable this feature
- Restoring contacts from backup files
- Displaying backup history within the app
Important: All processing occurs locally on your device. We never transmit your data to external servers or third parties.
4. Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
All backup files are stored locally on your device in the app's sandbox. These files remain under your control and can be:
- Shared via iOS sharing mechanisms (AirDrop, Messages, Mail, etc.)
- Saved to the Files app or cloud storage services you choose
- Deleted at any time through the app or iOS file management
Encryption
When you enable encryption for backups:
- We use AES-256 encryption, a military-grade encryption standard
- Your password is never stored by the app
- Encrypted backups can only be decrypted with your password
- If you forget your password, encrypted backups cannot be recovered
Biometric Security
When you enable Face ID or Touch ID:
- Biometric authentication is handled entirely by iOS Secure Enclave
- We never store or have access to your biometric data
- Authentication is used only to protect access to encrypted backups
5. Third-Party Services
ContactVault does not use any third-party services.
- No analytics services (Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
- No advertising networks
- No crash reporting services
- No social media integrations
- No payment processors (one-time App Store purchase only)
6. Permissions
ContactVault requests the following permissions:
Required Permissions:
- Contacts: Required to read your contacts for backup and restore functionality. All contact access is local only.
Optional Permissions:
- Face ID / Touch ID: Optional, used to authenticate before accessing encrypted backups. Biometric data never leaves your device.
- Notifications: Optional, used to send backup reminders if you enable them. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
7. Data Sharing
We do not share your data. Because we don't collect or store your data on external servers, there is nothing to share.
When you choose to share backup files:
- Sharing is handled by iOS system sharing mechanisms
- You have complete control over what, when, and how you share
- We have no access to or knowledge of your sharing activities

ContactVault does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Our app:
- Does not require any personal information to function

- Delete individual backups through the app's History tab
- Delete all app data by removing the app from your device
- Manage backup files through the iOS Files app
10. Your Rights
Because ContactVault processes everything locally and doesn't collect your data:
- Access: All your data is already on your device, accessible through the app or Files app
- Deletion: Delete backups anytime through the app or iOS file management
- Portability: Export backups in standard formats (VCF, CSV) that work with any system
- Control: You have complete control over your data at all times
