Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 29, 2026 · App: Ember (iOS)

    Short version: Ember does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your personal data. Your financial information never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync (Apple's infrastructure, end-to-end encrypted) or generate an AI report (anonymized percentages only, sent to your own chosen AI provider).
  

1. No Data Collection

Ember has no user accounts, no servers, no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no tracking. We do not collect your name, email, financial data, device identifiers, or usage statistics. Ember's App Store Privacy Label declares "No data collected" across all categories.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

All snapshots, accounts, balances, and settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data stays on your device unless you choose to:

iCloud Sync (optional, off by default): If you enable iCloud sync, your data syncs through Apple's iCloud private database with Apple's end-to-end encryption. Apple's privacy policy governs that infrastructure. We have no access to it.
CSV Export (manual): You may export your data to a CSV file and share it wherever you choose.

3. AI Monthly Report (Optional)

The optional AI Monthly Report uses a "bring your own API key" model:

Your API key is stored securely in the iOS Keychain.
When you generate a report, only anonymized month-over-month percentage changes are sent to the AI provider endpoint you configure. Absolute account balances never leave your device.
The request is made directly from your device to the provider you choose. We do not proxy, log, or store these requests.

4. Exchange Rates

When you create a snapshot containing non-USD accounts, Ember fetches current exchange rates from a public exchange-rate service. No personal or financial data is included in these requests — only the currency code.

5. Contact Support

If you contact support through the in-app form, we receive the name, email, subject, and message you provide, and use them solely to respond to your inquiry. This data is never sold or shared.

6. Notifications

If you enable the monthly reminder, Ember schedules local notifications on your device. These never leave your device and are not managed by any server.

7. Children's Privacy

Ember is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.

8. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will be reflected in the app's release notes.
